Nikhil Kalyankar, Associate Director, Entrepreneurship Lab

Nikhil Kalyankar is the Associate Director of the Entrepreneurship Lab (eLab) at Pace University. The eLab was launched in 2012 and Nikhil was hired as the inaugural Associate Director. As a new hire, Nikhil was responsible for advising students with regards to business plan development and business pitch preparation. However, after seeing a promising first year performance, the University higher management took several initiatives and entrusted him with complete responsibility.

Through these initiatives and Nikhil’s diligent & scrupulous efforts, the eLab grew from being a showcase facility into a fully functioning department. Nikhil secured funds from various sources to increase the number of staff positions from 3 in 2012 to 10 in 2014. He oversees and provides leadership to eLab staff in performing highly professional tasks including event management, project management, market research, financial analysis, video recording, video editing, creative design, web design and web development.

Nikhil is accountable for all the operations associated with the lab from start to finish. With absolute attention to detail and clear responsibilities to student assistants, Nikhil has delivered successfully and exceed expectations. Nikhil has managed multiple responsibilities and expectations with ease. From event management to program management, from creative design to high tech web development and from grant writing to business advising, from purchasing & procurement to contracting & reimbursement.

Prior to joining full time at Pace, Nikhil has worked as a Graduate Assistant for the Management Department. He played a key role in organizing the Seventh Annual Pace Pitch Contest. Nikhil is tech savvy and started programming at a very young age. He has worked for Capgemini India as an Associate Consultant which involved developing an Enterprise Application Software. Nikhil holds an MBA degree in Entrepreneurial Studies from Lubin School of Business, Pace University and Bachelors in Engineering from Osmania University, India.

Roles & Responsibilities

Business Advisor

  • Performing a variety of financial/business management advisement, technical assistance, and related educational services to new and existing student businesses.
  • Providing direct technical assistance to students in the research and development of business plans, marketing plans, and business pitches.
  • Evaluating business plans & ideas together with students to assess viability
  • Providing advice and assistance in the establishment and maintenance of business
  • Working with students to set achievable goals and objectives
  • Reviewing and advising student businesses on a regular basis

Event Manager

  • Delivering successful events, within budget, that exceed expectations
  • Planning and organizing wide variety of events including competitions, speaker series, panel discussions, workshops, seminars, conferences, networking, boot camps, showcase exhibitions, fire side chats & student presentations
  • Setting, communicating and maintaining time-lines and priorities for every event
  • Communicating, maintaining and developing interdepartmental relationships
  • Managing operational and administrative functions to ensure event related activities are delivered efficiently
  • Providing leadership, motivation, direction and support to student assistants and volunteers
  • Being responsible for all events from start to finish.

Brand Manager

  • Planning, developing and directing marketing efforts including facility showcase, walkabouts, open house and student & alumni fairs
  • Creating new concept events & competitions to engage wider student audience
  • Executing strategies with cross-functional teams

Program Manager (for three independent programs)

  • Planning the delivery of the programs including Veterans Entrepreneurship Boot Camp, Ted & Pat Levine Proof of Concept Entrepreneurship Initiative and Israel Entrepreneurship Institute and their activities in accordance with the mission and the goals set in the proposal
  • Prepare, administer, and monitor documentation to track financial requisitions, equipment and other inventory, and prepare information for internal reporting.
  • Developing a budget and operating plan to support the programs
  • Developing forms and records to document program activities
  • Recruiting, interviewing and selecting well-qualified student assistants for individual programs based on specific requirements
  • Ensuring all student assistants receive orientation and appropriate training
  • Supervising assistants by providing direction, input and feedback
  • Communicating with stakeholders to solicit input to improve the program
  • Communicating with funders regularly
  • Ensuring that the program operate within the approved budget
  • Monitoring all budgeted program expenditures

Project Manager

  • Managing new creative software projects for student/general use
  • Creating a work breakdown structure for each event/project

  • Conducting full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.

Technology Instructor

  • Preparing and conducting technology instruction to students and in particular to the participants of the Veterans Entrepreneurship Boot Camp
